About Me.

Gavin standing at the edge of a mountain lake — Jasper National Park, Canada

Hey, I’m Gavin. I’ve been a firefighter with the London Fire Brigade since 2010, and I’m now a Leading Firefighter in the Building Design and Consultation Hub.

My day job is reviewing building plans and fire strategies against Approved Document B (Volumes 1 and 2) and BS 9999. The schemes range from new developments and major alterations to refurbishments and material changes of use.

I’m studying for a BEng (Hons) in Fire Engineering at the University of Lancashire, following a First Class BSc (Hons) in Computing and IT from The Open University. I also work as a freelance developer, building websites, web apps and data tools.

I’m originally from Ireland, grew up in and around London, and now live just outside Milton Keynes with my wife and our daughter. When I’m not working or studying, I’m usually climbing or out on the mountain bike.
